Information about Maya

I am a highly motivated and hard-working individual beginning a BA in History at the University of Exeter in September 2019. I have excellent communication and office skills, developed though my varied work experiences, including with my local MP, the National Trust and Wiltshire Council. I enjoy working towards tight deadlines and can quickly adapt to a range of tasks.

My ultimate career ambition is to become a full time Secondary or Sixth Form teacher, so becoming a tutor would be great training for this, and I am great at working with young people - I`ve had to work really hard to achieve my full academic potential. That`s what I want my students to feel too - that with enough hard work, determination and interest, they can achieve anything!

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: To whom it may concern,

I am a first year History BA student at the University of Exeter currently at home in Chippenham due to the Coronavirus lockdown. I am interested in becoming an online tutor for your company, ideally for History or English Literature at GCSE or A-Level.
I achieved 10 GCSEs grades A*-A (and one B grade) in 2017, including a near 100% score for my English Literature exam papers (losing only 1 mark across all papers) and a A* GCSE History grade. I have also achieved two A* grades at A-Level (including A* English Literature and History), an A* grade for the Level 3 Extended Project Qualification and an A grade at A-Level Politics. Moreover, I am currently on track for achieving a 1st or high 2:1 for my History BA degree. My tutors have commented on my methodical and thorough essay writing skills, which helped gain an interview for Oxford University and advance to the finals of the Historical Associations’ Great Debate in 2018. So, I feel I am in a good position to help your students develop their own creative and academic writing skills. Using the PEEL core paragraph structure, I can help boost their grades through use of new, adaptable sentence structures and new online resources published since the lockdown to develop personal interest in their studies.

My ultimate career ambition is to become an English or History teacher, and so becoming an online tutor would be the perfect way to further develop the communication skills necessary for this. Therefore, I believe I am the perfect candidate for teaching students how to improve their essay writing and independent learning skills during this difficult time – drawing on my personal experience of making flashcards for every lesson of my GCSE and A-Level courses. In terms of wider tutoring experience, I have a full DBS and during my A-Level study spent two years volunteering as a classroom assistant for a GCSE History class. My two years working for Rag and Bone Arts and Drama, various work experiences involving education and young people (most notably with the National Trust’s Green Academies Project) and two years sat on the North Wiltshire Local Youth Network has also taught me much about how to engage young people in their studies, which will be vitally important during this time of reduced structure for many school students.
I am happy to send on a copy of my CV and references if desired.

I am very grateful for your time in reading this application.
Kind regards and yours sincerely,
Maya
