Information about Charlie
My name is Charlie and I am a historian researching German history and the history of the Holocaust more widely. I have a PhD from the University of Southampton and a BA and MA from the University of Exeter.
Having taught in secondary schools, at UK universities, and privately tutored a number of A level and GCSE students over the years I am perfectly placed to take any student to the highest grades.
Availability: I am currently taking on students for the 2025/26 academic year.
Willing to travel: 15 miles
Experience: As an academic historian I have a wealth of experience in various areas of history, but as an educator I have equal ability to take you to the highest grades possible.
I have completed numerous hours of private tutoring and also have a year`s worth of classroom experience as well as small group discussion based work. I specialise in essay structure and composition - an area many students often neglect making their work difficult to follow.

Charlie was a real find! My son - who is 17 - says "Charlie turned a subject that I was struggling with into one I really enjoyed and did well in. All the lessons were really well planned and interactive, promoting active recall of knowledge. Charlie is a really top bloke and knows how to pitch a lesson just right. He`s been really great actually and I looked forward to all his lessons." As a parent of an older student, Charlie and my son sorted out lessons and timings between themselves so it was convenient for all. Highly recommended as a tutor.

Charlie`s knowledge for and enthusiasm of his subject matter were the main reasons we looked to him for help with our son`s upcoming History A-level, as the latter needed guidance in how to structure answers to essay questions. Although some topics are outside his area of expertise, he has been highly flexible in his willingness to research material and offer support, which extends to helping with ongoing coursework to ensure that the teaching points are being consistently applied. Charlie has also proven flexible in arranging tutorial times to fit in with our son`s schedule. Overall, our son`s work and his approach to both exam techniques and revision have improved noticeably since we started with lessons in December - all thanks to Charlie`s support. In addition, I should say that our son finds Charlie approachable as a tutor which, for a teenage boy not used to asking questions in class or seeking out his teachers for help, is a definite plus.
