I do not want to start with saying that you should study for 5 hours from the very first day of your term, otherwise I am sure that you will run away. Passing the exam with good grades requires a smart approach, I call it exam based approach, want to know what you should be doing?

PREPARING FOR THE EXAM:- Do you ever wonder why you can remember your favourite song word by word and not any boring theory from the study book. It is because you listen to the song many times. The same principle applies to the study as well, the more often you come across the topic, the more you get familiar with that and the faster your pen works in the exam. Try and read through your notes whenever you don`t have any important social activities to do, such as Facebooking.

I am sure many of you do not find those bulky, scary and sad study books the most exiting experience in the world, right? But who said that you must follow that - your module descri ptor? you may not need to follow that! The smart approach would be to follow the CLASS NOTES - they are nice, short and sweet, aren`t they? - that is where most of the key points of the topics are covered, and believe me that is what makes the difference in the exam. Rising as many key points as you can, helps you score more marks. However, just writing the key points in their original form - like bullet points - is not enough. To gather with that you have to do question practice. Find some of the past papers, try and Understand the type of questions you may encounter in the exam and the model answers by the examiner. This will enable you to write the TYPE of answer your examiner is looking for.

DURING THE EXAM:- At the start of the exam, instead of spending time selecting the easiest question, opt out the most difficult ones, so that you do not have to spend the valuable time doing that in the middle of the exam when you are feeling most time pressured.

Courses could be different but method of MARKING the exam remains same. As I have explained earlier, more points attracts more marks. You know what, markers also have social life, they also want to get free from marking and check the Facebook updates, so while marking, they mainly look for the key points in the songs you have sung in the answer-book.

Try and write in short paragraphs, try to demonstrate that you know many things and those are written in different paragraphs, in other words, each paragraph is making new point. Because, if you write the whole answer in one lengthy paragraph it may give impression that you are taking a long route to explain only one issue.

And lastly, if you are dealing with a scenario based question or a case study, use the names from the scenario, such as the name of `the company`, `the product` they are selling etc. This will make your answer look more realistic and based on the scenario.

I hope that you will find above tips useful. Happy preparation. :)
