Why French?

This is a good question, a crucial one if you are thinking of learning a second (or a new) language.

Some people might say that French is hard, yes it can be, but it is also so rewarding. French is the language of Love, it is also used in the UN, in the EU or during the Olympic Games for example. It used to be the language learnt by the aristocrats in the UK. Moreover, French is spoken in 29 countries as an official language such as France, Canada, Belguim, parts of Luxembourg and Switzerland.

When you live in the UK, the advantage to learn French is that you can easily go in the country and practise. Thanks to the Eurostar, Paris is only 2h15 away from London and Brussel is less than 2 hours away. If you live in London, there is a strong French community with whom you could communicate, there are also : a French cinema, a big French library, a few French shops among them really nice bakeries...

Learning French will also open your mind on another culture, this is important nowadays to be able to understand others and to face globalisation. Learning French could show you that some stereotypes and prejudices are not true, but some are. French people love their "baguette", they don`t all have a "moustache", most of us don`t smell bad unless we have eaten cheese (because we love it!!). French fries are actually not French but Belgium, a French braid in France is called an African braid...

Are you convinced?
