For most Brits, or Americans, or indeed, French, or German or other west European tongues, the Russian language and alphabet looks daunting. It is not. For a person who already has some basic language skill, Russian is relatively straightforward, methodical and governed by simple and easy to understand rules. I know this because, although I have lived in London for many years, I was born in a former Soviet state and grew up in a family of Russian-speaking teachers. I trained as a teacher of Russian and Russian history and have a B.A.-standard degree which qualifies me to teach children or adults to the highest levels. I have taught in a London classroom of girls from every imaginable ethnic origin, some brainy, some dull, some lazy, and have been amazed, over and over again, by the way they become absorbed in the language and slowly, or not so slowly, realise that learning Russian can be fun. Not only girls, of course. This year I helped groups of tourist guides at the Olympics; I`ve worked as an interpreter at business meetings and I can provide one-on-one tuition for people who are looking forward to that alarming, or maybe exhilarating moment when the wheels of their plane hit the tarmac at some Russian airport and they realise that their long-planned business trip or exotic holiday has at last begun! Perhaps that`s where I can help you?
