What Makes A Good Photograph?

This is a much pondered over question for enthusiasts of photography. The magazines all tell us that it`s about the equipment, the composition, the techniques, the dedication to the task of finding the ideal subject matter....

And maybe it is all these things.

But have you ever stopped to consider this in more depth?

Suppose you don`t have the latest equipment available on the market, or the perfect holiday somewhere exotic? Suppose you are stuck with a rainy day in the UK and mediocre equipment? Do you give up and assume that you can never aspire to what magazines tell you is the way to go? Or do you instead pursue a different kind of approach to photography?

What is truly magical for me is not seeing great sunsets from the other side of the world, but instead seeing students armed with cameras and a whole heap of interesting items to create amazing results on a wet evening in the local woods.
