Spanish is the second most spoken native language. More than 400 million people are native Spanish speakers, 9 million people all around the world speak Spanish as their second language and it is the third most studied language. There are 20 countries that have Spanish as their native language. In the United States more than 41 million people speak Spanish as a first language and that number continues to grow. Additionally, the U.S. is home to nearly 12 million bilingual Spanish speakers. This makes it the second-largest Spanish speaking country in the world (after Mexico), but one study predicts it will be the largest by 2050. Is that enough reasons for you to learn Spanish, or do you need more convincing? Read on....It is not all about speaking the language. It opens up so many new doors, opportunities and a whole universe that you would otherwise be oblivious to. Being able to speak Spanish doesn`t just open up Spain to you. You can travel in South America in countries such as Bolivia, Chile and Peru. There you can interact with the locals and learn first hand about their culture, history and discover how many different dialects and slang words there are just a few miles down the road. You`ll be able eat in local restaurants and avoid the typical tourist places and grab yourself a bargain at local markets (or simply not get ripped off as a tourist) if you can speak their language. Locals will be fascinated by you, but they will not be able to speak your language so if you can speak theirs they will often invite you to their homes and you don`t get an experience more authentic than that! That for me is the real reason for travelling. You also feel so much safer by being able to understand what is going on around you, and your trip will be more relaxed and enjoyable as booking hostels and buses will be as easy there as in your own country.
