In Italian, there are many articles: "il", "la", "lo", "l` ", "gli", "i", "le", "uno", "una", "un".

DEFINITE ARTICLES

IL is used before masculine singular nouns which start with a consonant, except z, x, impure s, pn, ps, gn and two vowels.

I is used before masculine plural nouns which start with a consonant, except z, x, impure s, pn, ps, gn and two vowels.

LO is used before masculine singular nouns which start with z, x, impure s, pn, ps, gn and two vowels.

GLI is used before masculine plural nouns which start with z, x, impure s, pn, ps, gn and vowels.

LA is used before feminine singular nouns which start with a consonant.

LE is used before all feminine plural nouns.

L` is used before singular nouns which start with a vowel (both masculine and feminine).

INDEFINITE ARTICLES

UN is used before masculine nouns which start with vowels and consonants, except z, x, impure s, pn, ps, gn and vowels.

UNO is used before masculine nouns which start with z, x, impure s, pn, ps, gn and two vowels.

UNA is used before feminine nouns which start with a consonant.

UN` is used before feminine nouns which start with a vowel.
