The student who wants to learn songwriting and composition faces a major obstacle. He or she could learn to create brilliant songs that have the potential to be really successful in the music industry. However, a solo guitar and vocal recording of the song is unlikely to enable a song to reach it`s full potential. Professional recording studios are very expensive and even the most adventurous songwriters only do this with a few of their songs. Using midi solutions is not necessarily the answer either, as midi is only as good as the sound card and instrument samples that you have. This means that even very intricate arrangements can sound fake and amateurish.

The other problem with any software solution is that they are difficult to use. Many students tell me that they have the ability to record full band production recordings with the latest killer software, I always ask them to let me hear what they have created. Invariably they tell me that they have not got used to the software yet, as it is difficult to use. Or they have only used it to record acoustic arrangements.

I believe that teaching songwriting without teaching the ability to create full band production recordings easily, cheaply and quickly will not help them very much.

The software that I use costs just £39.99 although I do not sell it I only recommend it. There is also a two week trial on the software, so that students can start before they buy the software. In the first lesson the average student will be producing a full band production recording of one of their songs. Their recordings will feature piano, keyboard, acoustic guitar, electric guitars, bass and drums. This shows their songs to their full potential. I also give advice on digital multitrack recording solutions to enable the student to record and mix vocals and lead instruments.
