IELTS is the internationally recognised exam that certifies your competency in English at four levels i.e. Writing, Reading, Listening and Verbal skills A bad score in IELTS doesn`t mean that you can`t converse in English in a debate or write an email for a job advert

What it simply means is that you need to strike a balance at all the four levels and get a good overall IELTS band

The key is to focus on Writing and Speaking skills because these are the areas that are difficult to get a perfect score You can get a perfect score of 9 in Reading and Listening modules if you answer all questions correctly and the examiner can`t deduct any marks

Whereas Speaking and Writing skills evaluation is completely at the discretion of the examiner and unfortunately these are the areas that are most difficult to practice on

You don`t get sample papers or mocks for these modules and that`s where the practice lacks

These are the areas that are based on your day today usage of English

How much do you converse in English at home or with friends?

Does your day today work or study require you to write any emails, reports, notes, exams in English?

If not, make it a habit to start conversing atleast an hour a day in English at home or ask help from one of your friend or colleague to strictly talk in English with you and get you into a habit, make your mistakes and learn gradually, start with forming small sentences and slowly progress towards long sentences, speeches

Start writing diary at night in English, even 2 lines to start with and slowly move on to paragraphs

Most importantly when you start getting comfortable in all four modules than is the right time to start giving full length mock tests in a time bound manner

And remember to take it easy, at the end all it is just an exam..believe in yourself and you will ace it!!
