Every day is another opportunity to learn; it is for this reason that teaching, and learning, is so precious. The art of intelligent teaching is simplicity. Messages and lessons must be tailored to each specific audience. Teaching in its essence is building blocks: laying a plain foundation and adding more intricate layers at each level, therefore an awareness of each student`s particular needs and preferences is essential. It is the balanced recognition of the cognitive and emotional needs of a student that reaps achievement. Man is not a machine. Neither is man purely impulsive.

A second important facet of teaching is relevance. Material must be made relevant to the student`s understanding of the whole around them, demonstrating how what they have learnt fits in with the composite. It is a teacher`s responsibility to make theoretical concepts practical: making education mobile. It is not enough to show what; but how, why, and what this means - drawing lines between knowledge.

Thirdly, it is important to establish a balance between quantity and quality. Sessions must be of high quality, reinforced by the quantity of sessions throughout the provisioned timeframe. Effective teaching requires repetition and progression. As well as meticulously revising material, it is a teacher`s duty to ensure continual academic progression: developing lessons and techniques to meet these objectives.

Finally freedom of expression is imperative. Ideas are sacred; to stifle them is to erode our very being. It is vital students feel comfortable to share their opinions and ideas without fear. It is a teacher`s responsibility to cultivate the right conditions for learning, as a composed and pliable mind is necessary for fulfilment and self-realisation. A good leader creates leaders and not followers. The essence of teaching lies not in being a dictator, but a facilitator of learning.
