Private tuition has become increasingly popular over the last few years. Whatever your academic abilities, booking the services of a private tutor can only be helpful. But what if you are not looking for lessons in maths or English, or any of the other strictly academic subjects?

Back when we founded Tutor Hunt in 2005 we were adamant that we wanted to bring affordable tuition to whoever was seeking it, whatever their financial situation. We were also certain that we wanted to offer a wide range of subjects, and not just offer support for students who specifically want assistance with their studies. For this reason we have a huge selection of subjects, with tutors offering lessons in more eclectic pursuits. The following is a list of just a few of the more interesting subjects you can book lessons in through Tutor Hunt.

Accordion

Have you ever fancied becoming an accordionist? It may not be the most glamorous instrument, but it is extremely versatile. The wheezing bellows, the diminutive keyboard - who needs a backing band when you have such a miniature orchestra between your hands!

Backgammon

Forget chess, backgammon is the supreme board game. With a history going back 5000 years to ancient Mesopotamia, the game has always been popular, but players must be extremely skilled if they hope to win. The random element in the game can help you in the short term, but if you wish to become a proficient player, and win over multiple games, you will have to hone your skills.

Darts

Classified as a professional shooting sport, darts is the traditional pub game that is enjoyed all over the world. The rules are perfectly simple, but accurate launching of the pointed missiles can prove fiendishly difficult. Why not hire a tutor to make you a an expert in the game, and a legend in your local pub!

Esperanto

The language of Esperanto was artificially constructed in 1887 by the Polish ophthalmologist L. L. Zamenhof, who wished to decrease `the time and labor we spend in learning foreign tongues.` It is estimated that as many as 2 million people speak the language worldwide, and there are more than 25,000 original and translated books in Esperanto.

Flower arranging

Nothing quite brings joy to a room like a laid out bouquet or garland of flowers. Making such an arrangement though is far from easy, and an experienced florist will use the right kind of vase or bowel, filled with a carefully constructed netting of chicken wire, before carefully inserting the stems and arranging the display.

Jujutsu

Rather than referring to a specific fighting system, Jujutsu (also known as jiu-jitsu and ju-jitsu) denotes a category of martial arts, used in a defensive or offensive manner, by a subject (unarmed, or possessing a minor weapon), against one or more unarmed or armed opponents. This fighting system has gone on to influence the development of numerous modern martial arts, such as judo and aikido.

Paragliding

Do you like the idea of strapping yourself to a lightweight, engineless pair of wings, and being launched from a hill into the air? You do? Well maybe you should learn how to paraglide! This recreational and competitive adventure sport attracts thousands of people from across the world, enabling them to take to the skies, and potentially stay airborne for hours.

Touch Typing

For those wishing to improve their keyboard skills, the study of touch typing is a must. Simply put, the skill means being able to type without being required to look at the keyboard. Through the application of muscle memory, and acquired dexterity, a touch typist will be able to type at speeds of up to 100 words per minute. It is to facilitate the skill of touch typing that the F and J keys of a keyboard often have a raised profile, as this enables the fingers to know their position.

Weight Lifting

For the development of the physique, there is no better enterprise than weight lifting. It is very important that you exercise safely though, in order to avoid injury. By ensuring you warm up and stretch before you session, have proper form while lifting, breath properly, and never attempt to lift more than you are able, you will soon reap the benefits of weight lifting.
