I am a fully qualified Psychology Lecturer & the Course Team Leader at an outstanding College in West London. My ability to provide the highest quality of teaching and learning has been recognised nationally. I was shortlisted as `FE Teacher of the Year` at the TES awards 2016. I am also an Examiner and this allows me to make good use of examiner reports and marked scri pts to aid my students understanding of how to tackle exam questions and achieve maximum marks. I fully appreciate the importance of equality and diversity and utilise inclusive learning strategies to enable all learners to achieve their full potential. I am an extremely patient, determined and self-motivated individual who strives to work to the best of my ability and is driven by the success of my students. Experience: With a degree in Psychology, this is my area of expertise, which I have successfully taught at AS, A2 level and to an access to higher education group. I have also had the responsibility of being a personal tutor. Through this responsibility, I have had the experience of dealing with students who exhibit challenging behaviour. I have found that listening, modelling, establishing clear personal boundaries and using authority appropriately to maintain discipline very effective. Overall, being a personal tutor has given me an understanding of how to coach students` to perform better, providing personal and meaningful targets to help them progress, both academically and personally.

I have seized all opportunities to integrate myself within my College and the Psychology department to further develop my skills and knowledge in teaching and learning. Being a team player I have shared resources with my department to maintain the high standards. As a teaching professional, I have a thorough understanding and commitment to equality and diversity in teaching practice. Clear ground rules and consequences are established in which I have strictly enforced that discrimination, harassment and bullying will not be tolerated. The set up of my classroom is so that I am in a circle with my students rather than apart. This method not only helps to create a positive learning environment but it has also encouraged the friendly working relationship that exists between me and the learners. This attitude of accessible partnership extends beyond the classroom, as I ensure that students are aware of my office hours and my accessibility via email.

As a Psychology teacher, I strive to engage, challenge and inspire growth in my students. It is my belief that every student is capable of tasting the passion I feel for Psychology by becoming collaborators in the exploration of psychological theory, research and good practice. I have the ability to motivate and enthuse my students by delivering Psychology in an interesting and engaging manner that shows the elegance of the subject as well as applicability to the real world. I am able to competently design and implement a comprehensive and detailed lesson plan to ensure learners work to their full potential. To gain student focus each session begins with an outline of precise aims and differentiated learning outcomes. I understand that students learn in different ways and they bring their unique learning styles and difference to the classroom environment. I can confidently say that I am well versed and prepared to cater for the individual needs of my learners. Taking this into consideration, I am continuously aiming to meet the needs of my learners by using differentiated teaching and learning methods to create a situation in which learners can become involved physically and mentally, in order to learn more effectively. Each lesson is inclusive and integrated to allow students to enter and exit at their own level and pace. I find doing this places a great emphasis and value on my students’ backgrounds and cultural differences. Furthermore, the teaching and learning methods selected for each session abide by the SVUK standards. Experiments, debates, role playing, discussion and quizzes are a regular part of my classes. Not only do these methods help to actively engage students in the learning process but they also help to create a positive climate that supports student learning. The use of ICT is embedded in my teaching, for example, I am used to using the interactive whiteboard to enhance the learning of my students. Such interactive activities encourage the development of vital lifelong skills such as teamwork as well as a sense of community which helps to foster a positive relationship between learners. In addition to this, students are given a variety of opportunities to consolidate their learning via assessments for which timely and extensive feedback is provided with an aim to improve and accelerate learning.

My interpersonal skills are of a high level allowing me to develop constructive relationships with not only my students but parents, guardians and other members of staff. For example, I have written professional documentation to communicate valuable information to parents and guardians as well as engaging in informal discussions with them regarding their child’s learning and well being.

As part of my PGCE I was assessed and observed on my teaching practice regularly by both my placement mentor at Harrow College and professional practice tutor from the Institute of Education. The feedback from these observations has been invaluable to my development as a Psychology teacher as it has allowed me to reflect upon and improve my teaching practice. In addition to the invaluable feedback, I have sought opportunities to further develop as a teaching practitioner. As part of continuing my professional development within my subject area, my role of working as a part time Psychology tutor to A-level and degree level students also helps me to think of new and exciting ways of delivering the subject. Tutoring Psychology students has not only helped me to enhance my teaching skills but it also demonstrates my commitment to the educational field.

As a teacher I have high standards in what I expect from my students and reflect this in my own behaviour I am on time, efficient and prepared for my classes. Overall, I am an extremely hard working and self motivated individual who strives to work to the best of my ability and is driven by the success of others.
