Information about Alexander

I am a 25 year old male, newly moved to London who has just finished Masters Study.
While at Cambridge I was the President of Emmanuel College Students' Union, joint undergraduate rep for the University Council,(chaired by the Vice Chancellor), and a member of the Cambridge University Students' Union Executive.
I was selected to attend an International Youth Leadership Conference in Prague and I won a prize for 'Best Speech'.
I have much writing experience and was 'Travel Sitewriter of the Year' on studentworld(now defunct).
I also was a representative for four prefectures when on a teaching programme in Japan, in which capacity I helped to present reports to representatives from various government ministries, including the Ministry for Education.
I love travel, and had visited 5 continents by the age of 23. I am British, but also have an Australian passport.

I was employed for 2 years as an Assistant Language Teacher in a Japanese International State secondary school, on the JET Programme,(run by the Japanese Government). My experience included being a speech contest judge for various competitions; being a teaching award judge; having my joint lesson recommended on the Japanese Ministry of Education website; and English teaching work with kindergarten children, primary school children, high school pupils, and adults. I was a workshop leader at a seminar run by the Prefectural Board of Education.

I have had several years of Private Tutoring in England/Japan, including GCSE preparation in England and helping a student get into Tokyo University in Japan.

I was the Joint Coordinator for the British Romanian Educational Exchange Programme,(BREDEX), in Romania.

I was also a voluntary teacher on the BREDEX Programme in Romania.

I was the youngest member of the National Association for Japan Exchange and Teaching National Council.

I was an Assistant for a joint project for an APEC scheme linking my school with a school in Korea,(only four such schools in Japan).

I was also a helper in a GCSE English class in an English Secondary School.

I enjoy tutoring immensely because each pupil is a new challenge. I have good people skills and enjoy finding out what my pupils require and tailoring my lesson to their needs. In general my approach is flexible but focused on trying to show the student the point of what they are learning and trying to make it something that they no longer see as a chore.

I like to employ imaginative exercises in my teaching because I think it helps people engage with the work. I also like to bring in examples from real life/other disciplines etc. so that the student understands how what they are looking at fits into a broader spectrum of work.

I am equally comfortable teaching children,(my mother is a nursery nurse so I am used to a school environment), or adults.

I get immense satisfaction from seeing my students do well and grow in confidence.
