Maths (primary, ks3, gcse, adult-learner)
I have enjoyed teaching Maths & English at Cornwall College for 4 years and am now offering a relaxed, friendly atmosphere for private students to study maths and 11+ at my home in South Brent, Devon. Students are welcome from primary to GCSE.
As well as a Diploma to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (aka Cert Ed) I have a specialist level 5 Diploma in Teaching Maths, which gives me a wide range of strategies to deal specifically with difficulties associated with learning maths.
The individual student is at the heart of my planning; I identify misconceptions and facilitate the students’ investigations to discover their own solutions, using a variety of stimulating activities to cater for individual learners.
Maths is a topic that has a wide variety of potential barriers to learning, there are many common misconceptions and confusions that once identified can lift the veil of frustration surrounding maths and build confidence. Careful presentation, differentiation and a variety of stimulating activities are essential to cater for individual learning styles and learning difficulties.
I like to encourage social practice as this produces discussion, increases ownership, cognitive learning and critical thinking. It can also be fun, which cultivates a positive approach. Students may benefit from sharing lessons with a friend or family member, or may make new maths friends!
Some students will prefer the 1 to 1 lessons and they will be very welcome too.
