Information about Helen
I have a first degree (1st class honours) and PhD in Chemistry. I have recently worked in the chemical industry and so can offer industrial insite in science lessons and also to help students when making their subject choices for furture careers. I enjoy both science and maths and feel everyone can come to enjoy the subjects.
Tutoring Approach: I aim to make the subjects as fun as possible to ensure pupils want to learn. I am patient and will make sure the subject can be explained in a way the pupils can understand. I am also set practise work to do between lessons as i feel with these subjects the more you do the easier it becomes and the better the pupils will get. I also concentrate on exam papers- where appropriate to give the pupils the key skills to get the top marks possible. For A-levels in particular there is a big jump in subject demand compared to GCSE. I aim to ensure that this does not put pupils off as with a little explanation things can become much more clear. I am happy to offer intensive pre-exam sessions or more regular key knowledge work.
Availability: All day and evening times possible
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: Tutoring Experience: I have been tutoring at GCSE level (maths and combined science) for several years. I have also been tutoring at A-level for chemistry for a 2 years. I have also tutored at undergraduate and graduate level in chemisty over the past 3 years. I am fully CRB checked. I have had good results in maths and science tuition where often a little extra explanation and practice can make a huge difference both to ability and confidence.
