Information about Hareth

My mission, immediate ambition and soul focus is to study Medicine in order to become a Physician. I have established following a lot of research that there are a number of different routes into Medical School, and having carefully considered all of my options I have decided to go through the GAMSAT Medical Entry Exam. I have a Degree BSc Multimedia Technology & Programming. I currently work as a system engineer, a job which I enjoy and continuously receive praises for. However, the reason for my ardent desire to work in medicine is because of my compassion to work and care for people, my propensity to problem solve, fascination for biological science, and the ambition of continuing to better myself and achieve something great to benefit mankind.

This compassion to help people manifest in the charity and voluntary work I have carried out in the past, including Pudsey Bear children in need, Anthony Nolan Trust for Leukaemia and more recently a voluntary teaching project in poor communities of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

I realise the difficulty of the road ahead having seen the practise questions, GAMSAT is without a doubt one of the most demanding exams I have ever come across, that coupled with the fact that I have been out of education for a number of years makes this a particularly big challenge. However, I feel that it’s a challenge that I can overcome and I’m 100% prepared for the enormous effort that I will have to put in to achieve my goal. Adjusting to change and facing challenges are not new to me, having lived in 4 different countries during my teens, learning new languages, acclimatising to new cultures and environments. As you’d expect, these circumstances took their toll on my educational continuity and pushed me to take certain career decisions in the past, so I’m delighted to have the stability & right circumstance in the present and the future to pursue my dream.

In my current job, I’m responsible for attending to users’ requests and enquiries, and solving any problems that may arise with our systems; this requires good communication skills and the ability to work with various levels of people. I have gained key skills and attributes which I believe are linked to the ‘core values’ of working in the medical field such as having an analytical and process eliminating mind-set, spirit of enquiry, confidentiality, responsibility, advocacy and commitment. I have also served for a number of years in the TA (Territorial Army) which reformed my level of discipline, teamwork and self-sufficiency. In my basic training I was placed as a Leader of a Section and achieved Best Recruit Endeavour Reward at the end of the 6 weekends training, for high levels of determination, enthusiasm and maturity. I have great belief in myself and enthusiasm for the challenges ahead.

In order to boost my chances of being accepted at Medical School, I have started working as a volunteer in the wards of Warwick Hospital. This has allowed me to get good exposure to the working environment of a hospital, and gain valuable knowledge and experience. I’m also very lucky to come from a big family of Doctors, Dentists & Pharmacists, so I can certainly call on their help, knowledge, support & experience in order to overcome any hurdles in my quest.

As a person, I’m friendly, caring, sociable, polite and a good listener. I feel that working with a Personal Tutor is necessary for me, so I would endeavour to help create a positive learning environment in which I can make the best use of my tutor’s time and knowledge.
