Information about Carol

I`m friendly, approachable and patient. I have a good understanding of maths phobia, dyslexia and other barriers to learning. I like my lessons to be fun as well as informative. Give me a try!

Testimonials:
AB (Student) Thank you Carol. With your help I am really enjoying maths I have passed my GCSE foundation paper and now know that I can pass the higher paper with a higher grade all thanks to your help. Before your teaching I was really struggling with understanding the methods and I felt I wouldn`t even achieve a pass. But once I started working with you I immediately became more confident with tackling questions and started to enjoy maths, you made me realise I can achieve and I am very grateful for your help. (This learner passed GCSE Higher Maths with a B)

TC (Student) Several years ago I wanted a career change, so decided to embark on several courses, where I met Carol and never looked back. She taught me CLAIT, IBT2, RSA2 and Sage Computerised accounts. The skills she taught me I still use to this day as an office administrator and export coordinator. Carol gave me the support and encouragement in a relaxed environment that allowed me to achieve my goals and I can`t thank her enough.

MT (Student) Many thanks for the information and homework. And just to add - you`ve really helped me understand Maths in just a few lessons. Everything is so well-explained and well laid-out. A great teacher! (This learner passed GCSE Maths with a C, after several previous grade D-G)

OG (Student) A very useful lesson, thank you! (This learner passed GCSE English with a C, after several previous grade D-G)

JC (Student) Carol taught me on three topics, two in IT and one in Computerised Accounts. I struggled with confidence as I am Dyslexic. However Carol gave me the confidence to study in a relaxed and structured environment. The skills she taught me I`m using today as I complete my Degree in Occupational Therapy. Thank you Carol for giving me the support and confidence, I wouldn`t be where I am today without it.

SL (Student) I had a tuition session with Carol in preparation for my QTS skills tests. I was petrified about the maths test, but Carol`s positive and supportive guidance gave me the confidence to try. She helped me to concentrate on what was already there - what I did know - and helped me build upon that. I felt that Carol had an amazing capacity to quickly gain a good picture of my ability, including both my strengths and weaker areas - things that I had not really managed to work out by myself, in the panic! I felt so much more focused, with my knowledge refreshed, and my confidence boosted! I also passed, now on the PGCE course, doing well!

RC (Student) Being from the Cadman Klan our maths skills are not the greatest. When doing my Business Degree I was struck down by maths once again, but this time degree level numbers, squiggly lines, Latin and Klingon for all I knew. However Carol managed to help me at such short notice - ONE WEEK until my exam, she got me from me failing my practice exams, to passing in just a few sessions. Thanks to Carol I not only could answer the questions but actually understood. Amazing!! I passed my exams and I am now well into my top up degree at Hallam. Yay! 100% recommend for all maths abilities!

CG (Student/Colleague) Carol was a fine tutor and supported me through many training issues, which enabled me to become a tutor myself. Without her support and teachings this would not have made it possible for me to be where I am today, thanks.

MB (Student) I remember doing GCSE maths in a class of 35, hopeless. I`d slipped from an easy `B` failing during the first term of Yr 11, started weekly tuition with Carol, and we got my `B` back!! Extremely helpful

JR (colleague) I first worked with Carol in mainstream College when she managed their outreach Learning Centres. Her commitment was noted as being commendable and `above and beyond` even at that stage, but I was in no doubt of this when I worked with her at a Specialist College. I became Dyslexia Tutor there, and it was a chance to witness, not just Carol`s understanding of differentiation, equality & diversity, but also her enthusiasm to keep abreast of current practice. The application of her Continuing Professional Development in lessons and the method by which she taught was inspiring. I would listen to the hush from her students, as she started to teach Maths & English to learners who were categorised as `challenging`: behaviour not witnessed in Carol`s classes, but often in other`s sessions. As the Curriculum Manager for Maths, English and IT, she became my mentor and taught me how to use the College`s management information system. We also used this mentoring time to discuss our roles and the training that we might need. This was a collaborative session where we shared ideas on best practice, such as using her teaching methods to support my student who was a selective mute, using Text to Speech software. I would hope that one day I get the opportunity to work with and learn from her again.
