Information about Rosalyn
My PhD was awarded by the university of Manchester in 2016, and I am currently a researcher at UCL. I took my BA in social anthropology at Girton College Cambridge 2001-4. I was schooled at Merchant Taylors where I gained 9 GCSEs at A* and four Alevels at the highest grade.
I am an enthusiastic tutor who can make learning fun and relevant. I aim to make ideas clear to the student, in order that they can use them fluidly and flexibly, and to encourage genuine understanding.
I genuinely enjoy teaching and believe learning starts with the learner, adapting ideas and course content to meet their interests and needs.
Availability: Daytimes and evenings, mid-week preferred.
Willing to travel: 30 miles
Experience: I am currently teaching Social Anthropology and conducting research at University College London. I have seven years of experience taking on tutees in literature and social science subjects from school students to postgraduate level.
I am very proud of my existing students. Last year all three of my social science tutees gained their highest A-level mark in sociology, after being predicted their poorest grades in the subject, and consequently got into their first choice universities, studying Social Anthropology at Manchester and Law at Westminister, with a third student taking a scholarship at the University of Wisconsin.
I have a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Manchester, and experience editing my own collection of articles on indigenous peoples and climate change, to be published next year with Palgrave Macmillan. I have experience marking and conducting tutorials for undergraduates, and in editing and suggesting amendments for MA theses.
I have experience working with alternative education programmes in England and Latin America, and am widely versed in non-hierarchical learning which involves both student and teacher in consideration of a common object.
