Information about Ellie
I have graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a degree in International Relations and have been working in the charity sector since, supporting young people into better opportunities. In September 2022, I started a trainee teacher role at William Hulme Grammar School and have just attained my PGCE and QTS. I offer online tutoring services in the evenings and occasionally on weekends. I have tutored English to students aged between 7 and 25: helping them prepare for the Common Entrance exam, Functional Skills qualifications, GCSEs, Scottish Highers and A-Levels. I also tutor Politics at A-Level and have assisted with undergraduate essays and personal statements. I have an enhanced DBS check. I am a friendly and patient person, who enjoys helping young people to learn and develop new skills.
Availability: I am available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. I sometimes am available on weekends.
Willing to travel: 2 miles
Experience: I hold an enhanced DBS check. Having formerly worked as a trampoline coach for three years (coaching children aged 3-12) I have a lot of experience working with children and teaching. I volunteered as a reading mentor at school which involved reading and discussing books with year 7 students who struggled with English. At university, I volunteered as a Reading and Writing assistant at The Grassmarket Community Project, supporting adults with literacy. Within my most recent charity role, I have taught Functional Skills, which has included working 1-2-1 with a young man who was unable to read and write. This has given me a strong understanding of phonics. I found sharing my enjoyment of the subject a rewarding experience. I have tutored English and Politics to a range of students, aged between 7-25. I am lucky to have two qualified English teachers for parents, and so have a strong and relevant understanding of the English syllabus and a plentiful supply of resources at hand. In September 2022, I undertake a placement at William Hulme Grammar School through which I will attain my PGCE and QTS. Following on from this I hope to continue teaching young adults in the charity sector.
