Information about Laura

PERSONAL STATEMENT

I find helping children of all ages to achieve their potential and to gain confidence in their capabilities hugely rewarding. This is why I haven`t looked back since leaving the engineering industry to serve in the education sector.

I believe my ability to problem solve and the pleasure I get from learning myself have been key to delivering creative and successful tutoring sessions. My conscientious nature means I am willing to go the extra-mile for my students and want them to be the best they can be.

MY APPROACH TO TUTORING

I aim to build on a child`s strengths, understanding and interests from the outset, through a variety of hands on learning materials and engaging activities. Having built rapport and trust with my students, I can identify areas where they:
• lack confidence,
• have difficulty grasping key concepts, or
• find it challenging to understand what is required of them.
By breaking problems/tasks down into meaningful step by step chunks, what was daunting can become achievable.

I love seeing my students gain confidence in their abilities as we make progress.

Availability: Monday - Friday afternoons and evenings.

For students located beyond 5 miles from Woking, whom I travel to for tutoring, I request an additional charge for fuel and hope this is agreeable.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I have worked in the education sector since 2011. I spent the first 4 years of this experience in primary school settings, whilst tutoring in my free time. I am now an established tutor.

During my time working in schools I was responsible for the planning and roll-out of engaging mathematical, spelling, grammar, reading and writing learning activities - on a 1 to 1 basis, in small groups or for the whole class.

As such, I have experience in differentiating activities to meet the needs of all pupils and am familiar with the National Curriculum for Mathematics (Years 1 - 11) and English (Key Stage 1 & 2). I also have experience working with children who have Special Educational Needs (SEN) and those for whom English is an Additional Language (EAL).

I have tutored children specifically preparing to sit entrance examinations (in Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning) or SATs and GCSE Mathematics examinations, in addition to those who have required more long term support. In the past I have continued to support a student who I successfully tutored through GCSE mathematics into his first year of A-level mathematics studies. This year I have enjoyed seeing 3 students qualify for academic scholarships - delighted for them after their hard work and determination!

Great communication and a lot of enthusiasm. My daughter was excited to start a lesson with Laura every time. Even though my girl is only 4.5 years, Laura was able to motivate and engage her for a full hour.

Tutors Response :

Thank you very much for your positive feedback, Tanya. I`m delighted she enjoyed our classes as much as I did during the Christmas holidays. A pleasure to have been of help.

Laura has been tutoring our daughter for about a year. She is very helpful, engaging and motivating. I can see a great deal of improvement in my daughter`s reading & comprehension skills. Laura uses many innovative & fun techniques to teach - which could make all the difference in engaging with young children.
Would highly recommend to anyone!

Laura was great from the first moment. Our son really enjoys his lessons (which is some achievement!) and is quickly gaining confidence.
