Information about Adam
As a Physics student I encounter maths on a daily basis. It`s a daunting subject for many and I hope, for the students I teach, I can change the way they think about maths. I want to spread the enjoyment and fulfillment I get when tackling pages of numbers and help people overcome the fear of complex equations and graphs. Throughout my school life maths was an area I wanted to pursue further, partaking in additional research and always looking to improve and fine-tune my skills.
I`ve taken a lot of maths exams while I was at school, and even while I`m at Uni! They are hard, but not impossible. With help anyone can tackle even the hardest questions by working slowly, carefully and in a comfortable environment created by the teacher. I think this is the most important part of any lesson. Having the confidence to just `have a go` isn`t something everyone possesses but is something everyone can gain.
My lessons will be a in a relaxed environment that will make it easy for my students to answer questions with confidence. Getting an answer wrong is not something to be scared of and is actually the first step to improving your skills in maths. Being able to explain your method and how you reached your final answer is an important skill that will help you not only find your mistakes but most importantly also get to the correct answer and bag those precious marks!
I will discuss with students from the outset how they would like their lessons structured and where they feel they require the most support to allow me to forward plan for the most effective use of our time. However working on topics that they find easy wont help them climb the grade ladder! I will encourage students to stretch themselves to help them achieve the highest grade possible.
It is important for students to complete past papers to assist me in identifying areas that students need extra support in and for me to track their progress. I will give questions to practice on after our lessons and to come back with so that if further help on a topic is required I can give that to you. When working on a new topic a gradual progression from the basics to advanced techniques is an effective way to fully grasp each concept. Once the theory has been taught applying the knowledge is the next step. I am open to any method that the student finds most comfortable!
Availability: I am available Monday - Sunday from 11am-8pm however I am open to most times of the day, please contact me if you have any questions.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have been tutoring for three years whilst at university, completing over 200 hours of tutoring. I have helped over 20 students with their GCSEs and A-Levels in both Maths and Physics. I typically work online but have also done plenty of face-to-face tutoring as well.
I have also worked with nearby schools, helping underachieving students who may not have the finances to afford a tutor. I worked with my students weekly, helping with the topics they are struggling with in lessons at the moment and helping them build the confidence and techniques to improve their grades.
