Information about Joss
Hello, I`m Joss, an NHS Junior Doctor enrolled in the competitive Specialised Foundation Programme at Luton and Dunstable Hospital. I graduated from UCL Medical School in 2024 and currently completing a Postgraduate Certificate in Education alongside my medical training. I also teach medical students and assist with medical school applicant selections at UCL.
In 2021 I graduated with First Class BSc(Hons) in Cardiovascular Science with Medical Sciences where I studied at Great Ormond Street and the Hatter Cardiovascular Institute. My research focused on blocking the body`s immune system to protect the heart during a heart attack. The same year I was awarded the George Drexler Bursary for Academic Excellence. In my spare time I am a keen runner rower, and cyclist.
Availability: Due to my work, timings may need to change but I can be very flexible provided bookings are made at least a week out. In general, I prioritise weekday evenings and weekends. Please reach out if you have any concerns.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I have been tutoring GCSE and sixth form students for a number of years in maths and science with extensive experience providing tutelage to students taking both foundation and higher tier exams. Alongside this I take on several additional students each year to guide them through the complex process of applying to medical school.
In 2022 I began the process of setting up my own programme to increase the number of students from poorly represented socioeconomic backgrounds attending medical school. I deliver these sessions to classes both in person and online and hope that this project will be built upon in the coming years.

Very impressed by Joss. Excellent communication in setting up lessons and a programme of study and a friendly and knowledgeable approach. After a few lessons Joss suggested stopping as he felt my son was not benefitting sufficiently from online lessons. Completely agreed as my son is not that motivated in this subject generally and, after a year of COVID online lessons with school, fairly unenthusiastic about this method of learning. I very much respected Joss`s honesty (when he could have easily have just kept taking the money) and he made good suggestions for next steps. I am sure Joss would make excellent progress with the right student.

My Y11 (GCSE) son has had biology tutoring with Joss. My son found Joss easy to get on with from the start and I feel he enjoyed the fact that Joss is a medical student, which is something that my son is currently very interested in. Joss has been very punctual and prepared for the lessons, with materials (slides) and exam practise questions. My son has commented that Joss covered things such as exam/HW question techniques/points to remember which is great as these can be forgotten/slip even by the more able students. Although I initially contacted Joss for biology tutoring, it`s great that we now have a "go to person" for chemistry and maths too, should these subjects require a boost in the future.

Joss was absolutely brilliant. He came well prepared to our sessions using PowerPoint, exams questions and diagrams to help explain things very well. He also made their resources available to me outside of our sessions and with set homework, I was able to reflect on my progress throughout. With his strong educational background in medicine, he really knows his stuff and is able to make links to real-life which made understanding topics MUCH easier. Would definetly recommend!
