Information about Tim
I hold a 1st class MMath (Durham University) & PhD (U.o.Sheffield), have 10 yrs experience tutoring GCSE, A level, UG statistics & mathematics to all ages from secondary through to university students.
I have also aided adult learners such as young professionals with numeracy tests and consulted for researchers.
I use the unique insight gained from both my PhD in Mathematics and broad teaching experience to emphasise the intuitive nature of the subject (drawing parallels between topics) and to simplify problem-solving processes. I enjoy working together with students at all levels (both in person and online) to explore the beautiful patterns and structures of this fascinating discipline which underpins so much of the world around us.
Equally as important, I maintain a relaxed and supportive environment where an individual`s confidence is built up through breaking questions down into small, logical steps.
Availability: Most evenings and afternoons
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: In addition to many secondary school pupils, I have tutored students self-studying Further Maths and others completing courses at Bristol University, Open University, Leicester University and Oxford Brookes University. I have extensive experience with online tuition, teaching around 8 hours per week, and I particularly enjoy using my specialist expertise to help all learners reach their full potential.
As well as many UK students, I have taught international students from places such as China, India and the Middle East in my role as teacher at Queen`s University Belfast (81% of my students achieved A/A* grades). Furthermore, I have taught trainee secondary maths teachers at Stranmillis University College where I received a rating of 98%. Prior to this I led undergraduate tutorials at the University of Sheffield and lectured at Sheffield International College.

Really enthusiastic tutor. Really engages with the student and amends the learning level to suit the child. Still early day but my child is very happy with his approach.
