Information about Madeleine

Hello! My name is Madeleine and I am a professional Canadian opera singer and musician. I am organized, outgoing, hard-working and have always loved teaching and taking care of others. Not only am I currently working as a part-time nanny for two young kids, but during my final year at university I also worked as a nanny for a family with four kids. When working with children I like to focus on creating a fun and supportive environment with a sense of mutual respect for one another. It is extremely important to me that my students feel heard and listened to while maintaining clear expectations of a positive attitude and strong work ethic. Music and languages are about being compassionate, enthusiastic and having good communication; all of which I believe are key qualities to success in the classroom and as a musician!

I was born and raised on Vancouver Island, British Colombia by bilingual parents, speaking French and English at home. I attended French Immersion schooling from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and graduated with a double-dogwood degree with honours. I also have a strong working knowledge and understanding of Italian and German from my language courses at university and an exchange semester in Milan, Italy.

I graduated from McGill University with a degree in Classical Vocal Performance, where I spent my years studying with world renowned singers; Tenor Stefano Algieri and Soprano Aline Kutan. Not only did my years in Montreal give me an in-depth understanding of the theory, history and musicianship of Classical music and Opera but also gave me the opportunity to rule the stage, playing rules such as the Countess in Mozart`s Nozze di Figaro, Elettra from Mozart`s opera Idomeneo, Giunone from Cavalli`s Calisto , and Sister Martha in McGill`s production of Poulenc`s Dialogues of the Carmelites.

As a young child, I always had a huge interest in music. At the age of five I began taking classical piano lessons in my home town. By 10 years old, my passion for music had expanded and I joined the Nanaimo Youth Choir, a professional childrens` choir that devoted themselves to performing, competing and touring around the country. When I turned 13, I began taking voice lessons as a solo artist and began working to achieve my dream of becoming a professional Opera singer.

As a young professional, I spent many years studying with Canadian Soprano Heather Thomson-Price at the University of British Columbia. There, I frequently worked along side Soprano Simone Osborne and Tenor Perry Price, all of whom have had successful careers with the Metropolitan Opera, the Canadian Opera Company and many others throughout the United States and Europe.

In May of 2018, I moved to London, England excited to see what opportunity in the world of opera awaited me here.
