Information about Karen

I have been a teacher for nearly 30 years. My passion is Psychology; a subject that I have an MSc in. I am currently teaching in Higher Education and Further Education for a few hours each week. Other ways that I fill my time is as a distance learning assessor and doing voluntary work. I really enjoy working with young people to support them to reach their goals. I am looking for a few hours of online tutoring each week preferably for A levels/Level 3 and beyond. However, I am happy to consider GCSE and equivalent as well.

Availability: I have some after-school/ evening availability but these slots are filling fast! I also have a little weekend availability left and plenty of daytime space on Monday, Wednesday and Thursdays :)

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: As you can see from my bio I have had a long career in teaching. It has also been very varied. My main area of expertise is psychology but throughout the years this has led me to gain knowledge, experience and qualifications in a number of related areas. To organise this for the reader I will split it up into subjects with my experience listed below each heading.

Psychology:
Taught A level at a secondary school; online tutoring at A level and bachelor`s degree level; I have been an external examiner for the AQA and am currently registered as one for Pearson.

Sociology:
Taught at A level; taught as part of the L3 Diploma in Health and Social Care.

Health and Social Care:
I have taught mainly at Level 3 with some Level 2 classes occasionally. I have taught all the mandatory units in this qualification with my specialisms being Psychology, Sociology, Infection Control and Safeguarding.

Education (Early Years):
In addition to teaching this at Level 3 Diploma level I have also assessed apprentices and I am the lead tutor for a Foundation Degree in Education (Early Years pathway). I have taught and assessed every module on the L3 Diploma and helped to write the new modules for the Foundation Degree.

Study Skills:
As part of my role in various jobs I have taught study skills such as academic writing; conducting research; presentation; referencing and applying for university. I have attended seminars on supporting students who are applying for places on courses in education and nursing. I have helped students to write their personal statements for UCAS and to write a CV.

Short Courses in Health, Social and Child Care:
I assess and moderate several Level 2 distance learning courses including Understanding Autism; Behaviour that Challenges; The Principles of the Mental Health Care Worker and LGBT in the workplace.

Karen is helping my son who is studying A level Psychology tremendously. He was really deflated with the material from college and Karen is providing explanations, materials and ensure that he understands what they are covering.

Tutors Response :

Many thanks for this feedback, Joanne. Adam is a pleasure to teach and I am happy that he finds the sessions useful.
