Information about Lesley
I have always wanted to teach and love working with young people of any age.. I am patient, understanding supportive and highly aware of the need to enable the student to achieve.
I work through praise and careful guidance to ensure the student gets the most from the 1:1 contact. I believe in a child-centred approach to learning and always aim to work for and with the student. I was Senior Teacher in charge of the medical provision in a complex pupil referral unit where I worked on a one to one and small group basis with students who had a variety of medical /special needs. These young people effectively prepared for their GCSE examinations and were successful in their college applications . I retired after 40 years of teaching in mainstream schools and have worked in a range of environments including, classes of 30, 1:1, small groups and in students` homes in an outreach capacity. I was an Advanced Skills Teacher supporting staff across the county of Dorset. I have also mentored and guided trainee teachers in training enabling them to positively achieve their qualifications.
During the pandemic I worked online with a variety of ages and this has widened my approach to how technology can work to enhance the education of young people.
I continue to love teaching and working with young people and look forward to supporting the needs of individuals once again as the restrictions on social contact reduce.

Experience: I was Head of Drama in a school in Dorset for 17 years. During that time I worked extensively with children of all ages and abilities. I am educated to Masters level also holding a BEd initial degree and PGCE. I am also trained as a Senior Leader holding the NPQSL qualification. I have trained teachers and guided those new to the profession successfully through the early stages of their career. I have also supportedHLTA s in their applications to become fully qualified teachers.
I have directed numerous school productions which has given me an excellent knowledge of plays and productions for use in English and Drama teaching. I am also a published writer and this aspect of English Literature enhances my ability with creative and imaginative projects.
I have taught adults GCSE Psychology with a very good success rate. I have enjoyed the opportunities teaching in both the comprehensive and adult sectors have given me and I hope to continue my teaching through a more individual and 1:1 basis by tutoring and supporting tutees as required.
I always listen to the requirements of my students and tailor my teaching to their needs. I always aim to work in a positive and successful environment using what is most effective for the specific individual. I am a good listener and have a good sense of humour. I use praise and work to the positive in all situations. I believe a positive working environment is essential to the success of an individual.
As noted above I love teaching and continue to find new approaches and techniques to help a student find success.
