Information about Elijah

So you are sitting here browsing profiles of tutors, trying to select the best one. Why pick me?

Well it will come to personal choice; but I am probably not like the maths or physics teacher that your son or daughter has at school. I think of new ways to explain things, I use connections to real life that take account of the kind of person your child is. I draw from my extensive knowledge as a mechanical engineer to speak about where the maths or physics might come up as part of the students career path.

There are many tutors on here, great educators I am sure, who have very extensive careers as teachers; the question is, do you want a tutor for your child who is like who they have at school? Chances are, if your student is struggling at school, you don’t want someone in the same mould at home - you want a fresh approach? I’ll let you decide if I am what you are looking for, but that is what your child would be getting, a fresh approach to what they’ve heard in the classroom and missed.

If you search Elijah the Tutor on youtube, you may be able to find some videos I’ve made on a few topics.

Availability: I am available at different times from week to week, but can do mornings afternoons or early evenings depending on the day. I do Saturdays as well as weekdays.

Willing to travel: 15 miles

Experience: When I finished my first degree in engineering, I went to teach in India, straightaway, for nearly two years before continuing as an engineer. I was very appreciated where I taught and made a lot of friends and a few budding mathematicians and physicists. I then went on to do my masters in Engineering and to work as an engineer for nearly 6 years. I taught as a teacher in the Forest of Dean after that, but the method of teaching was too regimented for me: as I used to tell people, I had left an engineering company that made plasterboard in bug factories, and gone to a school that seemed to have taken the same approach to students… it was too impersonalised, and felt like a factory approach to education. So I left. I now teach part-time at a Steiner school, tutor during the school year, and work as a director of my own company making wooden furniture for people. Feel free to ask me more, and please check out my feedback section to see what others think of me.

Elijah is patient, friendly, and full of positive encouragement. My son loves his "fun maths" lessons at home, happily talking about the topics with anyone that will listen😁; Highly recommended.
