Information about Kim
I am committed to student focused learning and have worked with a wide variety of students in different settings. This includes life skill programs such as the National Citizen Service, as well as UK and abroad school settings.
I have just completed by PGCE training in Secondary English with the University of Warwick where I have been working hard to learn relevant and modern skills for teaching. I hope to share these approaches with students through an online platform.
I am enthusiastic about creativity and love to explore ideas and themes around texts. The beauty of English is that your opinion matters! As long as we find the right ways to evidence your understanding, you can interpret what is in front of you in many different ways!
Feel free to let me know your goals and what topics you would like to explore. This way, we can discuss what skills we should focus on to get you where you want to be.
Availability: Contact me with your availability and I will do my best to work around your schedule.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I have taught English and Drama around the world, including Sri Lanka, The Gambia, Thailand, Tanzania, Poland and the UK! For the past year, I have been completing my official PGCE training in two schools where I worked in KS3 and KS4. Alongside this, I lead teams on youth programs such as NCS.
I also hold certificates in safeguarding, mental health, and makaton (a form of non-verbal communication). I constantly strive to acquire skills that will benefit my students.
My official job role is English Teacher, however, I completed a 1st class degree in Drama, Theatre and Applied performance. Combining these two skills are a major benefit I can offer you as your tutor, as drama is an important element of English. For example, creativity, exploring character, setting, and plays!
In my spare time I write. I believe that no one is ever done learning, and so to continue developing my skills as a teacher of English, I need to continue developing my skills in English too. I am currently creating a poetry anthology around the theme of nature.
