Information about Jo
Would you like some professional help with learning? Need to catch up following recent disruptions, or to push on for exams? A qualified teacher with 15 years of experience across key stages 1, 2, & 3, I could help.
I offer tuition either at your home, respecting social distancing, or online. Individual teaching programmes are created to engage pupils and tailored to suit each person`s particular needs. I aim to balance focus with fun, interest with achievement.
My goal is always to instil self-confidence in learners, to build positively on what learners already know and can do, and to help them to believe that they can learn whatever they want to learn. This applies equally to home learners, those struggling with different aspects of learning and those ambitious to excel. If studying for the Eleven Plus, it is important to start early, work systematically and stay committed - including continuing tuition through the summer before the exams.
If you are reading this, you must be considering getting help with learning of some sort, whether for you or for someone close to you. Please get in touch!

Experience: I am a qualified teacher with 15 years of experience in the classroom. Although I have worked in secondary/ middle schools, the majority of my teaching has been in primary schools. I have worked in mainstream schools with a wide range of children. I have coordinated enrichment programmes for gifted and talented pupils. I have supported pupils preparing for grammar school exams. I have written and managed education plans for learners with dyslexia and dyscalculia, autistic spectrum conditions and other social, emotional and mental health difficulties.
As a class teacher, I taught across the spectrum of the National Curriculum, with particular focus on progress in Reading, Writing and Maths. As the school coordinator for the teaching and learning of English for many years, I rolled out various strategies to develop reading for pleasure and to make the learning of grammar and spelling fun, fun, fun! Prior to that, I enjoyed roles as the school lead on Science, History and DT. However, my guilty pleasure is a love of numbers, the application of Maths, in games and puzzles, and the Art of Maths.
I am a parent, the most important job/ experience in the whole world.
Prior to teaching, I was an architect and web designer. More recently, I have established myself as an artist, specialising in the publication of greeting cards and fine art prints.
