Information about Nick
I am a qualified physics teacher, with experience teaching in a number of secondary school settings, both private and state. My academic qualifications for teaching physics was a 1st class degree in planetary science and astronomy, but prior to that I had another degree in philosophy and theology.
My range of academic interests are therefore broad, and my view on teaching science is that it is most interesting when given a context, not simply taught from a text book. Before training as a teacher I worked for two decades as a design engineer in the electronics industry, and so my teaching of many topics is done with real world examples, as well as with the pure theory.
I am also an adventure sports enthusiast, coaching paragliding, and leading rock climbs. It is largely for this reason that I am choosing to move away from teaching, back to tutoring, in order to give me the flexibility to pursue those disciplines further. And yes, paragliding and rock climbing both make for excellent physics lessons in themselves!
Availability: I am available most evenings, and by request during the day and at weekends.
Willing to travel: 15 miles
Experience: I worked as a TEFL teacher for three years in Germany, teaching to both children and adults. I was a technical trainer in industry, working for a specialist electronics manufacturer. Most of my career has been in a technical industry. I have worked now as a physics teacher for 5 years, in London and the south east, in three different secondary schools. Prior to training as a teacher, I worked as a teaching assistant in local high schools, whilst studying for my last degree.
