Alex

My name is Alex and in 2013 I graduated in Criminal Justice, gaining a first class honors degree from the University of Northampton. I recently completed my PGCE in Northampton University gaining QTS status. I am currently completing a MSc in Education within Cardiff University and working full time as a primary school teacher. Currently I am teaching Ks2 and KS3, focusing upon maths and English.

As a teacher I seek to be flexible and execute a dynamic approach to learning that will ensure each pupil gains the maximum benefits from one to one tutoring. I believe that each pupil progresses and learns differently and therefore should be taught according to their individual needs and requirements. I have been teaching in various primary schools throughout the South Wales area and have taught between the ages 4 - 11 at different ability levels. I have tutored pupils from local primary schools and gained valuable experience that has positively impacted my teaching strategies and knowledge of tutoring.
In addition to teaching and learning, I am a keen sportsman and through having the opportunity to represent my country and county in swimming, I believe sport is an important tool in building confidence, maturity and various attributes that are required for any professional career path.

I am a very friendly, patient and understanding tutor who has always been able to establish a good rapport with all my pupils. I am extremely patient and calm in my approach as a teacher and aim to help children relax and enjoy learning. When teaching, I take into account various learning styles and aim to tailor my sessions based upon the childrens individual strengths and needs.
I always seek to challenge my pupils and ensure progression of learning is achieved, ensuring my pupils gain more confidence and recognise the rewards of education both extrinsically and intrinsically. I have an extensive range of resources to help make sessions interesting and help me gain an understanding of the concepts used by each pupil. I am flexible with locations and timings.

Availability: I am available every evening within the week and any time during the weekend.

Experience: I have extensive experience as a teacher across the age range from 4 to 11. I have a good level of experience, due to teaching children in both key stages 1 and 2 and currently working as a full time year 6 primary teacher. This has allowed me to gain valuable experience in preparing pupils for the step up to secondary school and preparing them for exams. I am able to provide tuition for all primary subjects but have a specialism in mathematics as I have worked as a math’s coordinator within my previous school. I have an in depth knowledge of how children learn in all subjects and how they can be helped to enjoy their work, achieve and progress in all subjects. I also have valuable experience of tutoring children in both keys stages 1 and 2. These individual sessions have always been beneficial to the pupils learning and through parental feedback, the tutoring has helped them improve their standards and become more confident and engaging within the curriculum.
