Information about Rhiannon

I am a qualified Teacher and experienced Private Tutor (online and in person). I have been a full time, professional private tutor for a number of years, but have only recently joined Tutorhunt after being encouraged by some of the parents of the children I teach. They thought that (given the current situation) parents may be looking for a tutor who already has experience teaching online and who offers the curriculum to both primary and secondary students (up to GCSE) level for the core subjects (English, Maths and Science).

I am passionate about nurturing learning and a love for it and I hope to make a lasting positive impact. I truly believe that education is key to development: enabling progress beyond the classroom, creating life-long learners who strive for excellence, seek to challenge, and to be challenged. I hope to enable children to become independent, analytical and critical learners, who have a toolbox of knowledge, skills and understanding, including metacognitive strategies, that will enable them to problem solve, critique and think for themselves.

Availability: Over the last few years I have been tutoring online and in person.

UPDATE: Due to COVID-19, lessons are now conducted using an online platform.

Day time or evenings during all weekdays and some day times at the weekend.

Please note weekend tutoring rates incur an additional £15 per hour charge.

Willing to travel: 1 miles

Experience: I offer individual, tailored lessons for the core subjects (English, Maths and Science):
• Primary KS1 and KS2
• 11+ Preparation (English, Maths, Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning)
• KS3 (Years 7 - 9 inclusive)
• GCSE (Foundation and Higher including Combination Science and Single Sciences).

My planning and lessons are based on National Curriculum progression, school feedback and assessment information (if available) and my own assessments. This ensures progression and challenge, and that any identified gaps are addressed.

As a classroom teacher, across all years that I taught, the majority of my students consistently achieved accelerated progress with all children achieving expected progress (the national rate of progress). With the students I have tutored to GCSE level, all of them have achieved their target or desired grade. I have often been part of the discussion with parents about whether a student should be entered for Foundation or Higher Level at GCSE and have worked hard with the students not only to meet their grade but where possible to exceed it.

I left the classroom to become a professional, full time private tutor as I wanted to have the opportunity to help children reach their full potential and I felt that 1:1 or small group lessons with a qualified teacher would facilitate even faster progress. Being able to dedicate an entire lesson to one child or a small group is a learning experience that is hard to replicate in schools. I also wanted to have the opportunity to focus on developing and teaching children whose needs were (for whatever reason) not being met. Working with children who have Special Educational Needs, English as an Additional Language and those from disadvantaged backgrounds (whilst teaching and prior to formally becoming a teacher) enables me to bring a wide range of strategies and experiences to the educative process.

I believe that inspiring confidence and boosting a child`s resilience whilst giving them the tools to access the curriculum enables them to thrive in a more formal education setting. I have found that tutoring allows children to move through the curriculum at their own rate and can lead to greater levels of understanding as we move on to the next subject or area when we are ready to. I also find that children tend to find it easier to communicate any challenges they are experiencing in a much smaller setting. Developing a strong and honest relationship with the students and their parents is key to their development as it helps to creates a reciprocal feedback loop and an open discussion about their learning which the students are actively involved in and (to some degree) leading.

5/5 Rating

I have been thrilled with Rhiannon as a tutor. She has inspired so much needed confidence into my son`s written work. She is patient and makes the lesson fun. She has also helped create a calm atmosphere that ensures my son enjoys the lesson as well as learns. My son was very nervous to begin with and Rhiannon has been great at reassuring him and helping him enjoy the tutor session.

Tutors Response :

Hi Diana,

Thank you for providing such lovely feedback. I am very much enjoying working with your son and it has been lovely to be a part of the progress he has made in such a short period of time. He works very hard and is a very diligent student, and you should be very proud of him. Looking forward to our next lessons!
