Information about Esther
s a student at the University of Oxford I am very aware of the tools and skills needed in achieving and constantly seeking to improve one`s performance. I believe in the importance of a pupil`s full understanding of a topic, and so seek to dedicate time in ensuring that a pupil is comfortable with the basic concepts, thus building up their knowledge and skills from there.
I believe learning is about a flow of communication between teacher and pupil and make every effort to listen and pay attention to individual needs and craft our sessions around the specific aspects to work on. I seek not just to teach pupils what they have been asked to learn by teachers, but to also broaden their perspectives by explaining the concepts underneath. I like to allow the pupil to lead the session a little in order to identify how to run our sessions so that it is as helpful and useful as possible.
I have been a carer throughout my life for a disabled family member which has taught me the importance of individualising my teaching style to each pupil in a way which is accessible to them and demonstrating patience.
I have privately tutored before, most recently and currently in A Level Physics and Maths. Having had received one-to-one tutoring before I draw on my experiences of those and focus on carrying forward the parts or styles I found helpful, to the pupil.
My exams were taken by Edexcel and AQA, however I am familiar with the structure, style and examining procedures of other exam boards.
As a Physicist at the University of Oxford I had to undertake interviews and entrance exams and am very willing to support any wishing to go through the university application process. Oxford`s unique tutorial system for teaching is renowned for being beneficial to developing independent thinking, interview skills, confidence in communication and encouraging the student to broaden their own academic horizons themselves, and this is something I would wish to carry forward in my tutoring sessions.
