Information about Lena
Children love my mathematics lessons and grow to enjoy learning maths in just a few weeks!
Lena, why dont they explain it at school the way that YOU explain it?
11 years old student from Stevenage
I grew up in Leningrad (St Petersburg) the USSR (Russia) where my deep understanding of maths developed. My parents were professors of pure mathematics and played a huge role in my maths learning at school and University. I also attended my fathers weekly advanced maths lectures in Leningrad for two years and Professor Reeses weekly maths lectures at Edinburgh University, UK for one year.
My formal education was in Engineering and I completed an MA in Engineering in Leningrad in 1982 and achieved a PhD at Edinburgh University, UK in 1996. I led and participated in Engineering research projects in USSR and UK, with one of my UK research projects (sponsored by EPSRC, DTI, MoD and several UK industrial partners) being awarded internationally leading mark for research achievements.
I have been applying my maths insight to Engineering problems for many years with impressive results.
As the daughter of two mathematicians, maths is in my blood.
20 years of an exceptional maths education in Leningrad, USSR, coupled with my engineering experience and deep understanding of human (educational) psychology, and 30 years of personally researching and teaching in the UK has resulted in the development of my unique maths tuition system for children:
Maths for Moreish Minds
I know how kids think and I know what they need.
Maths shows kids how to think about maths, so that you can relax, and they can enjoy their maths learning because they grow to understand it and then the sky is the limit!
I invite you to benefit from my revolutionary maths teaching methods.
______
My teaching experience is broad and includes teaching Maths at North Hertfordshire College, private Maths tutoring to students up to A level and teaching Maths in schools in Russia. I also taught C programming, Applied Maths, Dynamics, Gear Transmissions (gear geometry and dynamics) to undergraduates and postgraduates (Edinburgh and Huddersfield Universities, UK).
I completed an MA in Engineering at St Petersburg, Russia and achieved a PhD at Edinburgh University.
I also have a strong understanding of human (educational) psychology and have diplomas in Child Counselling and Mindfulness.
By applying my Maths insight to Engineering problems for many years, plus using my deep understanding of human (educational) psychology, I have created a unique formula to teach Maths in a simple language my students can relate to, and once taught, they can apply themselves. My goal is to make their learning experience as simple and enjoyable as possible and help my students relate to Maths and create a natural balance to learn. Research shows that when Children can relate maths to real life situations and activities they learn faster, are more engaged and retain their knowledge much longer.
Lena is an excellent tutor. She finds ways to explain concepts in ways that you never thought of before, in a way that makes sense to you. She is not just your tutor but your friend as well and i thoroughly enjoyed working with her.
