Information about Lorna
I am now offering online tuition ONLY. I use software which allows video/audio chat, a shared whiteboard and screensharing facilities to as closely as possible give the experience of being in the room with students. I would consider group classes if two or more students approached me.
I am a qualified teacher (PGCE) with 5 years of experience, with a proven track record of raising attainment within my classes at KS3, GCSE and A level. I have provided home tuition in the last 4 years and have worked with a range of age, abilities, needs and subjects (Including all major exam boards), helping each student to a successful outcome in every case. I have also successfully helped a number of students to prepare for university interviews and entrance exams.
Previously I spent 10 years working as an interdisciplinary research scientist (Ph.D) at Imperial College London. As well as teaching Ph.D and Masters students, I was employed as an undergraduate tutor for 3 years at Imperial College, whilst being actively involved and then seconded into outreach work with primary and secondary level students and have taken that expertise on to running science enrichment activities at my school, so I am very interested in engaging young people in science!
With my collection of experiences, I have an excellent understanding of not only what is interesting in science, but also what is necessary to do well in national exams and how to help students of all ages and needs to be able to achieve this.
Additionally, I was a UCAS interviewer for 5 years, so I often help with preparation for university interviews, particularly for competitive courses and universities.
I hold a current DBS check that is available on request.
I teach all three sciences up to GCSE level and chemistry up to undergraduate degree level. I can support with understanding for both physics and biology AS level, but they are not my specialty.
I can be available for longer one-off tuition sessions for £60 per session. Group rates are negotiable.
**please note, I tutor in 50 minute blocks. Prices are for 50 minute, not 1 hour **

Lorna is very professional and has,in only a few initial contacts, engaged my son sufficiently that he looks forward to a subject he had been avoiding and lacking hope in. I am delighted to have found such an approachable and knowledgeable support to make Chemistry accessible

I enjoy her lessons she goes into depth with anything you don`t understand & uses useful illustrations. She also cares about your wellbeing, not just teaching you, and gives great advice. *From my daughter*
