Information about Swagata
Experienced tutor for Maths and Science subjects across Key Stages 1-4
Availability: Current vacancies - Monday/Friday/Sunday evenings
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have vast experience tutoring students of different calibres in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Combined Science, across Key Stages 1-4.
A large part of my experience has been in working with students who feel stumped by Maths and/or Science subjects at school and/or suffer from one or more of the problems below:
1. Struggling with basic Maths concepts like place values, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
2. Blanking out or “freezing up” during Maths/Science tests
2. Failing Maths/Science subjects in school
3. Often stumped and confused by Maths/Science concepts and theorems
4. Bored with these subjects
5. Don’t feel like their current private Maths/Science tutor “gets” them and their problems with the subjects
I have successfully worked with my students to improve their grades at internal school tests as well as board exams, all underpinned by improved understanding of the subjects, combined with useful exam techniques.
If you want to improve your grades, overcome any of the above problems, or simply solidify your understanding of Maths and Science subjects, contact me today!!!
Please note that in case of home tuitions, additional travel costs may be charged depending on the amount of distance I have to travel.
Tutoring Approach:
Encouraging, patient and attentive, constantly adapting to students` own paces.
With young children and secondary school students, I work on strengthening their foundations in the subject(s) by encouraging them to choose from a range of different methods to find the ones they are most comfortable with.
For eg.: While working on addition with a primary students, I use concepts of number bonds, stepping stone method using the 100 box, base 10 strips, the front end and compensation approach, and then they choose which method they are most comfortable with. This allows them to use these methods confidently and consistently, making a real difference to their confidence in working with numbers.
With students appearing for board level exams like GCSEs, I use a targeted approach to identify and strengthen areas of weaknesses while constantly reinforcing basic concepts in the subject to ensure that understanding of newer and more complex concepts can be built on these strong foundations. I also teach them extremely useful exam techniques and prepare them for the final exams by making them practise past papers, setting them mock exams and marking their answers to the board standards.
