Information about David
I first became interested in tutoring after university. Although very lucky to go to Eton College and Bristol University I struggled at School to properly understand the material and performed moderately in exams. I learnt the facts but without a core understanding of that which I was learning.
Through teaching myself new skills like swimming I have learnt that it is fundamental to understand the basics really well and build from there.
I also know of the stress that exams can cause having experienced it myself- there is a lot of pressure placed on individuals with so much at stake. Through sport, taking exams myself and dealing with the pressures that life can sometimes bring I have learnt that preparation is so important and although it can never completely get rid of stress it’s a great starting point. From spending the last 7 months learning how to swim with just a book and a DVD originally being terrified of the water, becoming extremely nervous when swimming more than half a length I have learnt to swim without anxiety through practice every day, refining the most important movements and doing it in a efficient way. I have learnt that learning a subject does require many hours but it’s important to make those hours as efficient as possible, to not waste time. That is only possible though through enjoying the subject, understanding it and wanting to do well. It’s important and as a tutor I will endeavour to help the tutee achieve this.
