Learning Mandarin as an adult learner from meeting my now wife and wanting to be able to feel comfortable when in China. First trip last year - struggled on Nanning with the dialect, but felt ok in Beijing. Passed HSK3 and started HSK4.

Also taking up Cantonese as my wife`s family tend to speak more of it, Mandarin is their 3rd preference!
