Information about Diana
Experienced, qualified and results oriented English tutor!
Enthusiastic and highly qualified English tutor with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, a Post Graduate Diploma in English as well as Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) for England awarded by the National College of Teaching and Leadership.
I have a strong desire to make a positive difference in the lives of our young people and I understand the crucial role that education play in their development. I realize that education is essential to provide academic qualifications for further education and gaining employment but I do believe, also, that education is equally important to nurture the qualities that are essential for a successful and fulfilling life such as self-esteem, confidence, adaptability and consideration for others. I am passionate about the capability of education to transform lives and have found personal fulfillment in my role as a tutor.
I have over 15 years experience teaching English at KS3, KS4 and 5 and am proud of my students achievements in their GCSE exams. I have also marked papers for major exam boards such as AQA and have a sound knowledge of the exam requirements which accounts for the successes my students enjoy.
I began my tutoring experience in 2014 when my oldest son was preparing to do his GCSEs and was really struggling. I mentored and coached him to develop core academic success using accelerated learning strategies, excellent time management skills, proven revision strategies and habits for school success. He did amazingly well in his exams and got an A in English Language.
Over the last few years I have mentored and helped other students both through face to face and online tutoring at GCSE and A levels. Most of these students have gone on to do various degrees including medicine degrees at high ranking UK universities. My own personal success story with my son coupled with my qualifications and varied teaching and tutoring experience makes me well placed to help you and/or your child achieve great results at GCSE and A levels in English.
I can also support students who are pursuing the functional skills module as I have supported many students, where English is not their first language, to succeed at Entry and Foundation levels. My youngest son is 10 and I have already started tutoring him at that young age so I can lay a good academic foundation for him. I can assure you that I am well placed to support you and/or your child to build a strong foundation in English and to achieve grades that will make them proud and confident in their abilities, but also prepare them to be a beacon of light as they move beyond the school gates and enter the competitive world of work. Thanks!

Experience: I am a highly experienced and qualified English teacher and I am very confident in my ability to guide and support learners, providing them with all the necessary skills to achieve excellent results in their examinations both at GCSE and A Levels.
Having taught English successfully for over 15 years, I have a sound understanding of current theory and best practices in teaching and learning. Student centred learning is embedded into each lesson, and pupils are given the opportunity to work independently and collaboratively. Resources are carefully selected to engage and challenge students and the use of ICT is an integral part of my practice, creating a stimulating learning environment.
Differentiation is another essential part of my practice and resources are tailor made to meet the wide range of needs of the students that I tutor. Students learning styles: kinaesthetic, visual and auditory also impact on the way I plan and deliver my lessons to ensure all students are engaged. I also work closely with EAL students who are at various stages of language acquisition and therefore I am familiar with adapting resources and using non-verbal cues to communicate effectively.
Formative and summative assessments inform both the planning and delivery of my lessons. Students are given opportunities to self-assess and peer assess and I also make regular use of homework assignments, tests and exams as these are used to provide essential information about students current attainment and how to move them forward. I ensure that work produced by students are regularly graded and feedback given to them about their progress.
My aim at all times is to ensure a balanced and engaging curriculum that includes fundamental skills: reading, writing and speaking. l am continually engaged in planning and implementing whatever measures will raise the attainment level of my tutees. My duties are performed effectively and efficiently and always within the framework of the national curriculum. I have led and managed many areas of school development such as guided learning sessions, creative writing workshops and poetry and spelling bee clubs, all of which have allowed me to transfer a variety of skills to my tutees.
My career as a teacher and tutor has been an extremely rewarding one. It is one in which students and their progress is at the heart of everything I do. I am confident in my ability to support you or your child to achieve the best results possible and lay the path for a bright future ahead.
