TEACHING, LEARNING AND ACHIEVEMENT FOCUS

I am an assiduous and focused academic and I have lectured and helped my pupils and students respectively to develop their language competence and skills to be effective in solving and confronting real life problems in different sectors of the economy for over 25 years. I have expressly taught English Language /Literature, Functional skills, Practical Business Communication, to people from various nationalities and ethnic backgrounds that do not have the language as their mother tongue so that they can appreciate the huge application of language in their everyday life such as writing application letter and preparing CV for jobs or business correspondence/ other types of formal writings and the impact on their future endeavours and development. I have always motivated and imparted children through personal role modelling to realize their hidden talents and achieve academic success and be useful to the humanity.

Devising, teaching and assessing with creative, learner-centred, differentiated and activity-based strategies and resources
I make my classes interesting and all inclusive by identifying and recognising different learning styles within my class and make sure none of my students feel left out . I primarily give my learners a sense of belonging through several activities like ice-breakers, carrying out project-based activity in groups which help them to properly get integrated into the society at large. I am dedicated to ensuring that learners have a optimistic understanding, sinking whatever fear they may have about the subject.
In my teaching, I constantly make sure every learner has project questions pack used as homework and I offer regular feedback on every task completed. Also, I provide every learners CD to watch prior to class teaching. I correspond to all learners in advance the lesson plan via individual email. I regularly update and keep tracking sheets for all the learners I teach, mark registers, and impute student progress on Pro monitor. I upload students achievement on the staff shared for the use of other interested members of the team such as the progress coach, course tutor and curriculum manager. I keep records of students’ presentation in order to measure their development.

Understanding of how equal opportunities affect classroom and College practise
Every learner matters and therefore should be treated equally and with respect. They should feel safe in their learning environment, be able to give their opinion or ask questions if necessary.
I am aware that equal opportunity and safeguarding help learners achieve their ultimate capability and therefore it is my training to make every learner understand that they have equal value (that nobody is superior to the other because of their race, colour of their skin, or privileged i. I ensured the learning environment is favourable to learning either too cold or hot, every learner has a voice, and free from bullying (direct or indirect). I sometimes give one to one attention to my students particularly those that may not be catching up or have special needs. I also make sure through role-play that my students understand the concept of diversity and the need to tolerate and accommodate each other. My lesson plans are always structured to match the abilities of the students depending on their learning goals within suitable time and I also use diverse forms of assessment methods to suit the individual learner’s needs/abilities and differentiations, ensuring teaching resources are accessible and adequate to all students.

WORKING WITH OTHERS
In the course of my career both in my present and previous responsibilities, I have worked well as part of a team besides sharing good practice, I partook and contributed in our team/ departmental meetings either as a member or Head of the team and also have good working relationship with my colleagues and students respecting their views and values. I always took resourceful initiatives to help move the department forward in the team. I welcome constructive criticism and feedbacks from my students, other lecturers and managers and quality has tremendously made me a better academic and professional.

In the course of my teaching abroad, my colleagues and I have collaboratively published three books which are used in business communication, English Language / Literature for college and undergraduate students in general. I have also contributed a chapter in a book with other academic members in the United State of America and this book has been a great resource book to help students and teachers alike to appreciate African Literature. I am constantly developing new and reviewing existing resources to assist the learners in passing their exams as well as to develop an understanding of the subject.

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
I always provide all my students with assignment questions pack for their homework and ensure that they get appropriate feedback. It is my regular practice to ensure my learners understand the lesson plan for the week, update and keep tracking sheets for all the learners I teach, mark registers, input student progress on Pro-monitor. I maintain records of students’ presentation in order to evaluate their improvement.
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND CPD
I obtained B.A. M.A. in English Studies / Literary Appreciation and did a teacher’s training course at Redbridge Institute of Adult Education ( PTLLS ) and I am currently prospecting to commence further training in DTLLS. The knowledge acquired in the training has enhanced my skill and performance as a teacher and impacted tremendously on the general welfare of my students’ well being. I also regularly attend conferences in my professional area in order to update my teaching methods.

Continuous Professional Development
I have attended different CPD programmes at Cambridge Assessment Unit to update my understanding of the GCSE and GCE curricula respectively. These standardisation meetings have helped to improve my assessment skills and improve overall delivery methods to enhance my teaching which ultimately my students achieve high grades in their final GCSE and GEC examinations .
