As a professional writer with a range of credits in tv and radio (Eastenders, Holby City, The Bill), I gained experience of working with schools and colleges to develop the literacy skills of learners of all ages. Perhaps uniquely, I am also a fully-qualified Maths teacher equipped with the subject knowledge to teach to A-level. Aside from Maths and English, I occasionally teach guitar and ukelele and play in a couple of local bands. Though there is no escaping hard work, I think learning should be fun.

As both a parent and a teacher, I believe you get the best out people (young people included!) if you listen, and try to see the world from their point of view. I have recent experience of teaching in both state and independent schools, but appreciate not everyone thrives in these environments. Without personalised support from a sympathetic expert who can focus on and understand their needs, many young learners find themselves lost or feeling they are not reaching their full potential.

As a tutor, I aim to give that support, in a relaxed and fun environment. I aim to identify and overcome any fears that may be blocking progress. Starting from individual interests, enthusiasms and motivations, whilst building on existing skills of which they may not be aware, I aim to develop the confidence and feelings of success that ultimately lead to achievement.
