Information about Asami
Brought up and educated to a university level in Japan, Im qualified to teach both Japanese and English as foreign languages. Started teaching Japanese at the Japan Foundation in Egypt as a trainee teacher in 2011. I also taught English to adult learners at the British Council Egypt in 2012, before I moved to London in 2013 to obtain a Masters degree in Theory and Practice of Translation at SOAS, University of London.
On completion of the degree, I was endorsed as one of 3 graduate entrepreneurs by SOAS and founded a limited education company to promote Japanese language and culture in the UK. Ive taught at companies (including Ernst & Young and Credit Suisse), 4 secondary schools, a university (Imperial College London) and 70+ private learners across London. I also taught courses on grammar and conversation of from beginner to advanced levels at International House London from January 2020 to October 2021.
I am interested to learn about foreign cultures and have been always passionate about both teaching and learning languages. Before moving to London, I lived in Cairo between 2010 and 2013 to explore the language and culture of the country. My command of languages are:
- Japanese - Native proficiency
- English - Proficient (CEFR C2) - Cambridge CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) December 2012
- Arabic (Egyptian) - Intermediate level (CEFR B1) - Studied at IHI, Cairo between 2010 and 2011, lived in Egypt for 2 and half years
- Arabic (Modern Standard) - Beginner level (CEFR A2)
- Russian (CEFR A2) - Have been studying part-time since March 2020
In addition to language lessons, I have been organising events (since 2017 and switched to online in 2020) to introduce Japanese culture and build Japanese learners` community in the UK. The aims of the events are for learners to obtain opportunities to learn and practice the language by interacting with other learners/Japanese people through mini lessons and workshops.

Ms Asami is a really good tutor. She tutored my husband and I in beginners Japanese. She was very well prepared, had very good material and was very patient. Being a native, she had great insights into behaviour and Japanese culture.
