Information about Sara
I am a Scientist, a Special Needs Biology Tutor, Academic Learning Mentor and Specialist Study Skills Tutor.
I started my career as an Immunologist (MSc) and have over fifteen years of experience working in some of the top research labs in the UK. I am also trained as a Science teacher (BEd) with four years of experience in classroom teaching up to and including A level Biology and as a teacher of students with Learning Difficulties (PGdip). I am a full member of PATOSS (OF7780), The Professional Association for Teachers of Students with learning difficulties.
From 2009 till 2014, I worked in the Baytree Centre with students on a one-to-one or small group settings, preparing them for GCSE exams and providing them with tools to overcome learning barriers. I then moved to work as an Academic Mentor for Surrey County Council. Here my job involved working with out of school students, providing them with face to face educational and mentoring provisions. Most of the students I worked with presented complex learning needs, which required diverse teaching and mentoring approaches.
In 2016 I moved into higher education. Here my role is to provide my students with bespoke sessions enabling them to develop independent learning strategies. Study Skills can help students explore how SpLD impacts on their studies. With my tailored support, students can develop necessary strategies needed for planning and structuring assignments, gain academic language, develop critical thinking and improve effective revision.
I believe I hold the necessary and essential skills that make me a successful tutor. Skills such as understanding the learner`s needs, good listening, impeccable organisation skills, critical thinking and the ability to convey meaning into the well-constructed text, enable me to support students to achieve self-mastery. The fact that all my students achieve higher than predicted is a testimony to that.

Sara is very committed to getting the best out of her pupils. She has a wealth of resources that she calls upon. Sara has experience of those with special needs which was very important for my child. In a short space of time, Sara helped my son get a grade B in Biology after his mocks indicated that he would only achieve a grade D.
