Information about Penny
Having been a tutor for 12 years in Maths, English and 11 plus preparation, one of my main aims is to give children confidence which I hope will transfer to other subjects and help them in their future academic life.
I have A levels in Maths and English, a BA (Hons) in Psychology from Trinity College Dublin and an MSc in Applied Social Studies from the University of Oxford.
I have 2 children aged 19 and 22 and spent many years at home looking after them. When my daughter was about 9 years old, I noticed that she wasnt doing as well at school as I knew she was capable of doing, I began giving her extra help at home and eventually entered her for the Colyton Grammar School entrance exam which she passed with flying colours. At the same time, I helped a friend of hers who also went on to pass the exam. From this, I went on to develop a career in tutoring primary school children who need extra help in Maths and English as well as helping other children to prepare for the 11 plus exam.
I make sure to give parents regular updates on the work being covered and the childs progress.
Availability: I am fully booked at the moment.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I have worked as a tutor for primary school children for the last 14 years. This includes pupils needing extra help in Maths and English as well as children preparing for the 11+ entrance exam. My success rate with children who have worked with me for at least a year, in preparing for the 11+ exam for grammar school, is 85%. I have also helped children with the 11+ entrance exam for private schools. From time to time, I also work with pupils in Years 7 and 8 who need help with Maths and English.
As well as my tutoring work, I have a lot of other experience in working with children. I have worked as an Education Welfare Officer in primary and secondary schools and a Teaching Assistant at a secondary school, helping pupils with Special Educational Needs in Maths and English classes. While my children were very young, I also worked as a childminder.

Penny has been amazing with both my son and daughter. She takes time to understand what theyre working on at school and always prepares for each lesson. Shes both kind and patient and my children have gained so much confidence in maths since Penny has been teaching them and both are now in top set. I would recommend Penny to anyone looking for support in maths.
