Information about Brian

I am a very experienced A level and GCSE Religious Studies tutor and teacher, examiner, and published author of revision material. My students consistently achieve the highest grades, and I receive great feedback about how students feel much more confident in approaching their exams after detailed, engaging and fun revision sessions, using a range of teaching methods. Very happy to work 1-2-1 or in group settings, and I have listed testimonials below:

FG: Tutored A level RS: 2017-18
It is no exaggeration to say Brian is the best teacher/tutor I’ve had the opportunity to be taught by. I made the trip a number of times a term to see Brian during my A Level Religion, Philosophy and Ethics A level. He has outstanding knowledge of the wider subject as well as the intricacies of the individual exam boards and marking process. This is aided by a diagnostic approach to make sure tutees fully understand what is necessary for the top marks and a genuine passion for the subject, which definitely rubbed off on me. Additionally, he is very patient, allowing students to learn from previous errors, with a focus on making sure you have sound exam technique and timing. There is no doubt I would not have achieved the mark I gained, or I would have received my offer from UCL without his help. A grade awarded.

Parent of FG: Tutored RS A level 2017-18:
I don`t know you very well as we have only met on a small number of occasions but I do know you are much valued as a teacher. As you remember, you tutored Freddy when he was at the school and you weren`t, and it made a huge difference to him. Being blunt about it, the school was not providing what Freddy needed at that time and you filled that gap brilliantly. It felt like a major investment, driving a considerable distance,, but it was really worth it.

In addition: Brian stepped in to tutor our son when he was a little at sea with philosophy as an A level subject. Brian`s work with our son made an enormous difference and helped him get a top grade at A level. It also left behind an enthusiasm and understanding that has lasted ever since. We highly recommend Brian as a tutor.

GD: Taught A level RS: 2021-23
Mr taught me for two years during A-level Philosophy and Ethics and in that time easily proved to be the best teacher I have ever had. He would always find a way to explain a difficult topic in a way I would understand despite me often confusing myself, and he always believed in me when I didn’t for myself. He would be a great tutor to any student lucky enough to be taught by him. A* awarded.

NJ-B: Taught GCSE RS 2022-24
Mr has taught me for 2 years for my RPE GCSE. Quite simply he is one of the best teachers I have had. Mr is very calm and never gets annoyed if you don’t know something. He makes the lessons really interesting and explains things very clearly so you enjoy going to his lessons. He will always do what he can and go the extra mile so you are in a better position. Mr is very supportive - probably why we all like him so much. Exam June 2024.

Parents of NJ-B: Taught GCSE RS 2022-24
As parents of a child who has been taught by Brian , we would say he is one of those teachers you know you will always remember for being one of the best. Whilst being taught by Brian, our son was diagnosed with ADHD which made focusing a challenge for him. Brian went out of his way to acknowledge our son’s difficulties and adapt his teaching style so that our son would benefit. He knew our son’s strengths and weaknesses and was able to help get the best out of him and find a way for him to succeed. Brian is a good communicator, listens well and provides honest feedback with sensitivity. He is a highly intelligent man who knows "his stuff”, but also has humility and kindness, always looking for the best in the child.

TG: Taught and tutored GCSE and A level 2003-2007
I can honestly say that Brian is a teacher that has made a profound and lasting impact on me. I spent a long time struggling in education but Brian was the first to really find a way to connect and engage me, and help me find my way to thrive. His nurturing and genuine approach not only brings the best out in you academically but had a huge impact on me growing as a person, and this was something that I know he was famous for amongst everyone he taught. He has a real knack of bringing the work to life, and creating open discussions to work through difficult questions and scenarios. He creates a very safe space for people to learn, and importantly to make mistakes and learn from them. Above all, he makes learning genuinely fun and a place you want to be.

I cannot recommend Brian enough, he is utterly brilliant. I later graduated from university with a 1st, and I can say hands down I would not have achieved this if I hadn`t had Brian set me on the right path a few years before.
TG: B grade awarded

KSP: Taught A level RS 2017-19
I can confidently say that without Mr I would not have been able to achieve the grade I did in my Religious Studies A level. More so, I would not have been able to achieve this in such a calm, nurturing and exploratory environment.

Mr allowed me and my classmates to delve and discuss areas of the course, always encouraging free thinking and exploring all options and questions. This allowed me to gain confidence in my academic abilities, as well as learning the syllabus and beyond. Resulting in excellent grades and the conviction to pursue academics further. Mr will always go above and beyond for his pupils, his genuine passion for teaching is consistently evident in the lives of his students in, and outside, of the classroom.

I cannot recommend a better teacher, or more generous and caring person. I know I may sound rather ‘gushy’, but Mr genuinely changed my time at school for the best and I cannot thank him enough for it.
