With a Ph.D. in English Literature and having taught at the university level for several years, I have a strong academic background. I also bring a wide variety of experience to my teaching: as well as spending time in various parts of the US, I have travelled extensively, including living with a family in France between high school and college, working for a year in New Zealand, and taking the Trans-Siberian from Nakhodka to Moscow. I have raised two children, and supported them through every stage of their education to their college graduations, so I am very aware of the challenges facing today’s students.

Availability: I am available during the afternoons, most evenings, and at weekends.

Experience: I have worked one-on-one with students at every level from primary grades to post-graduate. At the university level, I taught classes of up to 30 students; many of my students came to me for individual help. While my children were at school, I volunteered for a local literacy program, where we had our own assigned tutees each year. During my seven years with this program, I tutored students ages 10 - 18, and loved helping these young people to become more confident in their abilities. I have been tutoring in Edinburgh since 2016, mainly helping students to prepare for the SQA exams (National 5 and Highers), GCSE`s and A-Levels. My hourly fee for tutoring also covers providing detailed feedback on students` written work, since I consider such feedback an essential component of my tutoring__no extra charge for this part of the process. During the pandemic all my tutoring has been online, because of the restrictions; I`m very much looking forward to being able to meet with students in person again.
