Information about Elliott
Hello! My name is Elliott. Im an enthusiastic and dedicated tutor with nine years of experience. I hold degrees from the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge.
Despite what you might think, I struggled at school when I was younger. Classroom learning can be boring and difficult. Teaching is too often formulaic and repetition-based. It wasnt until I started working independently that I began to experience success and develop a real love of learning.
One-on-one tuition can make a huge difference not only to a students results but to their attitude towards school. In my nine years of tutoring experience, Ive helped dozens of students improve their grades, get into their first-choice schools, and ignite their passion for learning. Its amazing what students can achieve when someone takes the time to understand their perspective, answer their questions and address their concerns.
I currently have some timeslots available for online tuition.
Availability: I am available seven days a week.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I have worked with over 100 students and gained over 1000 hours of tutoring experience. In this time, I have tutored students of all ages and levels: from Key Stage 1 all the way up to degree-level. I have special experience and expertise in the following subjects:
Maths (KS1-KS5, GCSE, AS-Level, A-Level)
Further Maths (AS-Level, A-Level)
English Literature (GCSE, AS-Level, A-Level)
English Language (GCSE, AS-Level, A-Level)
Philosophy (GCSE, AS-Level, A-Level, Degree-Level)
Religious Studies/Theology (GCSE, AS-Level, A-Level)

My approach to tutoring is confidence-building, question-based and results-driven.
The first step is to build confidence. Many students find the classroom intimidating and are terrified of giving the wrong answer. By creating a friendly environment and by emphasising that answers (even wrong ones!) are the first step to understanding, I can build a students confidence so that they are not afraid to tackle even the most difficult problems independently.
The second element of my approach is question-based. In the classroom, teachers lecture their students. Talking for minutes at a time means students lose interest and start thinking of other things. I ask friendly questions of my students, keeping them on their toes and testing their understanding. Making students the focus is the best way to keep lessons interesting and quickly identify any misunderstandings.
The final element of my approach is results-driven. Quickly identifying misunderstandings allows us to focus on each students particular weaknesses and concerns. This is the most efficient and most enjoyable way to improve results. I track each students progress using my own bespoke exercises and quizzes. Students are often shocked to see how quickly theyve improved! The thrill of seeing real progress motivates students to push on, tackling harder problems and developing a real passion for learning.

Elliott has been tutoring my daughter in A level maths for several weeks now and she`s delighted with the progress. He explains the subjects in a way she really understands, and it has definitely improved a couple of recent test results at school. Have no doubt their continuing sessions will benefit her greatly next summer.
