Information about Joss
Currently teacher of Economics and Business at an independent school in Surrey, in my fifth year of teaching. This follows an extensive career in a range of sectors, culminating in 17 years in financial services where economics was key to my role working with hedge funds and banks. I use this experience to help my students place theoretical concepts into real contexts.
Availability: Most evenings except Tuesdays, and weekends by arrangement.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I am in my 5th year of teaching Economics (GCSE & A Level), and Business (A Level only). I teach the AQA board for A Level Econ, the new Edexcel iGCSE for Econ, and Edexcel A Level Business. I am a macroeconomic specialist, although I also teach microeconomics to A1 level. My A level results have been 100% A*-B (2016) and 90% A*-C (2017). I have been trained as an examiner by AQA, and have marked the old Unit 4 macro papers. I focus on teaching essay writing skills, showing students how to use knowledge to build strong analytical answers, and assist the development of evaluation skills. At A Level I teach quite small class sizes, and often provide one-to-one support for weaker students, so know how to work with an individual, as opposed to a whole class. As a tutor I quickly assess a student`s strengths and weaknesses, and aim to fill any gaps as well as develop essential skills for the exam.
