I have a Masters degree in English Literature from The Open University and am also experienced in home tutoring.
My literature studies enabled me to investigate how the English language is used in a variety of global contexts, and to study literature from different historical periods and diverse cultural settings. I have explored writing and speech in a wide range of forms, and developed my skills in the interpretation of both literary and non-literary texts. I have acquired skills of analysis, the ability to critically comment on different kinds of writing, and learn to develop and sustain complex arguments. I am adept at attaining detailed research and transcribing material, in order to write concise and accurate assignments that adhere to strict academic guidelines.
As a home tutor, I teach literal and inferential reading comprehension to help my students understand a word, phrase or sentence in context, and to explore aspects of plot. I also help them to evaluate a writer’s choice of vocabulary, grammatical and structural features, and teach them to compare and contrast texts. I ensure that they can produce a clear and coherent argument, using accurate English. I am also aware of the assessment objectives, set by Ofqual, which are to read, understand and respond to texts, analyse the language form and structure, show relationships between texts and contexts, and to use a range of vocabulary and sentence structures for clarity, purpose and effect.

Throughout my academic career I have learned to be tenacious and self-motivated, so am determined and extremely goal orientated when I am involved in a teaching role. I have a comprehensive knowledge of the curriculum and provide extensive supplementary materials to aid the learning process. I have a creative approach to problem-solving that is often facilitated with brainstorming sessions, which can be an invaluable tool to generate new ideas for planning an essay. I am conscientious and committed tutor because I understand the importance of education to gain a competitive edge in the current job market. I have a positive outlook and tend to focus of positive personality traits in others, which builds confidence and, subsequently, increases performance.

I will provide a preliminary study needs assessment, tutorial guidance, email assessments of essay plans, skype chats to supplement taught sessions and will provide support materials at no extra cost. My aim is to get my students to effectively plan, in order to answer questions more concisely and meet the examination boards criteria.
